Members of the Williamsburg Chapter, NSDAR, are passionate about educating the youth of America and contributing to schools and student programs in a variety of ways, including:

  • Providing grants and awards to outstanding teachers and students.

  • Promoting education and citizenship through youth programs such as Children of the American Revolution (C.A.R.), DAR Good Citizens, and Junior American Citizens (JAC).

  • Supporting Kate Duncan Smith DAR School through chapter and member donations.

  • Providing funds to Bacone College, an American Indian school in Muskogee, Oklahoma.

  • Sponsoring American History essay contests for youth in grades five through eight and high school.

The Williamsburg Chapter, NSDAR, has a partnership with Williamsburg/James City County Schools (WJCC).  Our Community Classroom Committee has created 18 citizenship videos used in 43 first-grade classrooms with over 950 students. In addition, we supply materials to advance student learning, including "Sunshine Boxes," and in 2021, we donated Virginia Commonwealth flags to every WJCC first-grade classroom.

The Williamsburg Chapter, NSDAR, encourages public, private, and home school students to participate in the annual Junior American Citizens Art and Creative Writing Contest.   In 2021, 244 students submitted entries.

Each year, the chapter donates books to local public and private school libraries.

Our annual $500 Teacher Mini-Grant was awarded in December 2021 to a teacher at J. Blaine Blayton Elementary School.
